Castle Cliffe is situated in the historic parklands of central Hereford, an area of surprising tranquillity and unspoilt beauty. With easy access to the surrounding countryside and with Hereford's restaurants and shopping areas only a few minutes' walk away, it's the perfect place for a hassle-free holiday to help you unwind and pamper yourselves.

"The house is amazing! Not only is it beautiful, but it feels like it's in the middle of the country and yet here we are in the centre of town."
(Pippa - February 2003)

Originally the medieval watergate of Hereford Castle, the main sandstone walls are five feet thick, forming an essential part of the fortifications. Externally you can still see the 13th century arch that visitors to the castle, arriving by boat, would have used to enter the castle grounds. This arch now forms the bathroom window. Our private, south-facing garden has its own quay down to the beautiful River Wye, where the more adventurous of spirit can have a quick dip on a hot summer's day.

Castle Cliffe East has been lovingly restored to create a luxurious self-catering holiday property for up to six guests at a time. It has a four-poster bed, open fires and period furnishings throughout, as well as all the modern amenities one would expect to find in 4 star accommodation.

"Such a beautiful house! You seem to have thought of everything any guest could ever want. We really enjoyed our evenings in this very relaxing house. Thanks and I'm sure we will be back sometime soon." (Emer- January 2002)

"Thank goodness - no chintz!" (Helen-January 2002)
English Tourism Council - 4 star rated self-catering accommodation

Hereford is situated on the banks of the River Wye, in the Welsh Borders, which makes it an ideal base from which to explore. The Black Mountains, the Cambrian Mountains and the Brecon Beacons are all easily accessible, as are the Royal Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. A short drive can take you to Tintern Abbey along the scenic Wye Valley, to the National Birds of Prey Centre at Newent, or to Hay-on-Wye with its famous bookshops and annual literary festival. In Hereford itself you can explore the Cathedral, the Mappa Mundi Exhibition and medieval chained library.

So, whether you are looking for an outdoor walking holiday, a base from which to explore, or simply a place to relax, eat well and do nothing, Castle Cliffe has much to offer.

"It has been a pleasure to stay in your lovely home, where we enjoyed the tranquillity of this peaceful setting. It was a joy to fish in the river from the beautiful garden. Thanks again for the scones and blackberries, as well as your warm and friendly welcome." (Paul - August 2002)
